To increase viewer engagement on the Paramount+, several new components were designed to break up the traditional stack of content rows. A visually distinct 'Prominent Carousel' was designed to promote top-priority shows and movies. As Director of Product Design, I worked with senior managers and designers to ensure the high standards and design evolution of these complex components. Designed with larger with a differentiating ratio these units prominently highlighted a variety of titles with rich metadata and video trailers across multiple device views and platforms. Compared to standard carousels, the Prominent Carousel increased click-through by +17% and playback rates by +22%.

P+ video streamers lacked confidence in the exact meaning of video carousels like ‘Trending’ or ‘Popular’ and desired a fast, easy way to find shows and movies most watched by others. To address this, the team designed a visually distinct ‘Top 10’ carousel, leveraging machine learning and personalization to rank videos based on weekly viewership and relevance to user preferences. This solution boosted click-through and playback rates by over 25%.

During onboarding, P+ subscribers used a 'Content Picker' to select shows and movies, shaping their personalized recommendations. Through A/B tests and design iterations, we tested and improved content quantity, order, groupings, and user interactions.
We discovered users preferred immediate access to the full product experience rather than pausing to select favorites during onboarding. To address this, we repurposed the Content Picker mid-experience, allowing users to update their recommendations in context by selecting new content. A key insight was that context mattered as much as content in driving engagement.

P+ viewers struggled with content discovery on the Show and Movies pages due to a traditional grid layout. To address this, we introduced microgenre groups, advanced filters (e.g., A-Z, genre, ratings), video trailers, and an ‘Add to My List’ feature. These updates enhanced personalization, streamlined browsing, and highlighted the platform’s diverse library.

Paramount’s Design team rose to the challenge to swiftly launch Paramount+ on Vision Pro, becoming one of the first video streamers to enter the XR (Extended Reality) space. Design work began even before accessing the headsets, as each lead reimagined their content areas—mine included Onboarding, User Profiles, Browse, Search, My List, and Account Settings—for an immersive experience tailored to Vision Pro’s specific UX considerations like dynamic scaling, field of view and user input via eye, hand, and voice. Despite Vision Pro’s limited audience, the team delivered a groundbreaking platform quickly while successfully managing ongoing projects.

Our work spanned 15+ platforms, multiple device views, and various billing types. For live sporting events, we developed custom pay-per-view purchase flows designed to showcase the day's events and specific timing, ensuring an optimized user experience.
